A concept album themed around Richard I, who led the Third Crusade! Serenity, a giant of symphonic metal, was formed in 2001 in W?rgl, Tyrol, Austria, centered around Mario Hilzinger (key: also handling vocals at the time). They released a demo CD in 2002, but in 2003, all members except Mario and Andreas Schipplinger (ds) left, and the band effectively disbanded. However, with Mario at the helm, aiming to reform the band, they made a comeback with a lineup of Andreas, Georg Newhauser (vo), Thomas Buchberger (g), and Simon Holsnecht (b). Their support for DIO in August 2004 brought them attention, and the demo CD released that same year received high praise, increasing their recognition. They received offers from several labels, but signed with Napalm Records, a local Austrian label that made a particularly strong approach, and released their debut album \"WORDS UNTOLD \u0026amp; DREAM UNLIVED\" in 2007. Amidst a busy schedule of touring mainly in Europe with bands such as THRESHOLD, KAMELOT, and ADAGIO, they also continued recording, and quickly released their second album \"FALLEN SANCTUARY\" the following year, 2008. In 2010, Simon left the band, and Thomas took on the role of bassist as well, releasing their third album \"DEATH \u0026amp; LEGACY\" in 2011. This album also garnered attention for featuring guest appearances by female vocalists, including Irene, who was the vocalist for SIRENIA at the time. In 2011, Fabio Damo joined as the new bassist, and in 2012 they performed at the ProgPower festival, and their activities seemed to be going smoothly, but then Mario, the band's founder, left the band. Rumors circulated that the band might disband, but they announced they would continue, adding female vocalist Clementine Delaunay as a new member, and released their 4th album, \"WAR OF AGES,\" in 2013. The band, now with a new male-female twin vocal lineup, and this album were met with high praise. However, Clementine left the band in 2015, and they returned to Georg's solo vocal style, releasing their 5th album, \"CODEX ATLANTICUS,\" in 2016. This album also garnered attention for being a concept album themed around Leonardo da Vinci. And now, their 6th album, \"LIONHEART,\" is being released. This album is themed around Richard I, the King of England who spent almost his entire life in conflict and led the Third Crusade. And with this album in hand, a headlining tour will begin in February 2018. There is no doubt that a storm of melodies will sweep through the scene once again.
