Municipal Waste is a thrash metal band formed in Richmond, Virginia, USA in 2000. While strongly influenced by 80s and 90s thrash\/crossover metal bands such as D.R.I., Suicidal Tendencies, Corrosion of Conformity, Attitude Adjustment, and Nuclear Assault, their uniquely updated sound has made them a standout among the new generation of thrash. Municipal Waste's name was decided by guitarist Ryan Waste from the letters written on the side of a garbage truck. Their most distinctive feature is the exhilarating sense of speed created by the blend of punk's impulsiveness and metal's technical skill. Most of their songs are fast tunes lasting between one and two minutes, and with sharp riffs coming one after another, you'll finish listening to any album in no time. However, it's not simply a matter of having only fast songs; they skillfully incorporate changes in tempo and rhythm, and their well-crafted songs reveal that they are a band with an exquisite sense of style. It is this sense of balance that makes them stand out from their contemporaries, who clearly spearheaded the recent thrash metal revival movement. This album is Municipal Waste's second release since moving to Nuclear Blast, and their sixth album overall. Recorded at their hometown of Richmond's Blaze of Torment Studios, bassist Rand Phil took on the role of recording engineer for the first time. Mixing and mastering were handled by Bill Metoyer. He is the former vice president of Metal Blade Records and a key figure who has been involved in many works in various ways from the 80s to the present day. For example, he mixed Slayer's \"Show No Mercy\" (1983) and \"Hell Awaits\" (1985), and has also worked as an engineer and producer on countless other works by W.A.S.P., Lizzie Borden, Dark Angel, Trouble, Armored Saint, and many more, making him a heavyweight in the US metal scene. The band had been operating with a fixed lineup of four members since the release of their first full album \"WASTE 'EM ALL\" in 2003, but they have become a five-piece band for this album. New member guitarist Nick Poulos is a fellow native of the same region. He is also familiar to core fans as he has worked with Ryan Waste in two other bands: Volture, which pursues a good old metal sound, and Bat, a three-piece speed metal band. The other members remain unchanged: Tony Foresta (vocals), Rand Phil (bass), and Dave Witte (drums). Their solid playing is as consistent as ever on this album. The album artwork is by Andrei Bouzikov. His style, which has been responsible for the artwork of many new-generation thrash metal bands, is symbolic of a particular scene. He has handled the artwork for four consecutive albums by Municipal Waste, and also designed the split EP with Toxic Holocaust, \"Toxic Waste.\" Their latest work, which expertly blends elements of thrash metal and hardcore punk, has a slightly harder-oriented sound, as can be sensed from the album cover artwork. Perhaps this reflects the chaotic atmosphere in America today. Nevertheless, there are still plenty of opportunities for the twin guitars to shine, as expected. They are well aware of the essence of orthodox metal, and their straightforward groove, where all the instruments work together to stimulate the listener, can be said to have evolved even further.
