Dimmu Borgir was formed as early as 1993. They debuted as early as 1994 with the EP \"Inn i evighetens m?rke.\" Their third album, \"Enthrone Darkness Triumphant,\" released in 1997, marked a major turning point for the band. Dimmu Borgir has always championed a symphonic style that heavily features keyboards, and this album marks a culmination of that style. The high quality of the album, combined with the backing of a major label, propelled Dimmu Borgir to stardom. In 2003, they finally employed a real orchestra (the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra) for \"Death Cult Armaggedon.\" This album sold over 150,000 copies in North America alone, becoming a landmark in the history of symphonic black metal. Their latest studio album to date, \"Abrahadabra\" (2010), also features a real orchestra and choir once again. Dimmu Borgir is truly a band that has elevated black metal to the realm of art. The fact that \"elevating black metal to the realm of art\" is not a trite metaphor will become clear when you see the newly released \"Forces of the Northern Night.\" This work captures the live performance of the same name held in Oslo on May 28, 2011. The stage that day was a truly one-night-only special event, featuring 53 members of The Norwegian Radio Orchestra who participated in the aforementioned \"Abrahadabra,\" along with 30 members of the Skola Cantorum Choir. The performance was broadcast on Norwegian national radio and television, and naturally, there was a great demand from outside Norway to see this special performance, and now that wish has finally been granted. Flowing strings, roaring brass instruments, and a majestic choir. As it is a real orchestra and choir, the sound is naturally magnificent. Such a special live performance is something that can only be captured in a live recording, as it conveys the atmosphere of the venue, including the excitement of the audience.
