They formed in 1982 in Essen, an industrial city in former West Germany. Their albums, while raw and youthful, showcased a heightened sense of destructiveness and aggression, solidifying their status among thrash metal fans and leading to a more energetic live performance career. Their third album, \"Terrible Certainty,\" created with the addition of another guitarist as a four-piece band, saw a dramatic improvement in performance, songwriting, production, and every other aspect, propelling them to the top ranks of the thrash metal scene. In 1992, they released their 6th album, \"RENEWAL,\" and as the title suggests, around this time they began to engage in diverse musical experiments that went beyond the confines of thrash metal. As part of the world tour accompanying this album, they performed their first concert in Japan. Their 8th album, \"OUTCAST\" (1997), heavily incorporated elements of gothic rock, influenced by bands like Sisters of Mercy, Bauhaus, Fields of the Nephilim, and The Cure, which Millennium had previously listened to. Then, with their 10th album, \"VIOLENT REVOLUTION,\" released in 2001, they returned to speedy and aggressive thrash metal, but it wasn't simply a return to their 80s style; melancholic guitar melodies and solos, remnants of their gothic-influenced era, can be heard throughout the album. In 2005, they came to Japan to perform at \"THRASH DOMINATION.\" This marked their first visit to Japan in 13 years since their initial debut. In 2009, they released their 12th album, \"HORDES OF CHAOS,\" which emphasized a live sound, and they also performed at \"THRASH DOMINATION\" that year. In 2014, they returned to Japan for the first time in five years, making their debut appearance on the \"LOUD PARK\" stage. In 2016, they returned to Japan again, once more performing at \"THRASH DOMINATION.\" Having already begun writing songs for a new album in 2015, they dedicated themselves to its production throughout 2016, and have now completed their latest work, their 14th full-length album overall, \"GOD'S OF VIORENCE.\" This album features numerous aggressive and brutal tracks reminiscent of their previous work, but also includes songs that fully showcase European lyricism, as in their last few albums, as well as tracks that strongly reflect the influence of Celtic music.
