In 2000, they released their debut EP, \"Breeding Death,\" which shocked audiences with its pure death metal sound pushed to the extreme. They continue their energetic activities, going beyond the realm of a side project, with albums such as \"Resurresction Through Carnage\" (2002), \"Nightmares Made Flesh\" (2004), and \"The Fathomless Mastery\" (2008). Bloodbath, which had ravaged the world with a lineup centered around Blackheim and Lord Seth, and also featuring Pale \"Sodomizer\" Erickson (guitar\/left Catatonia in 2014) and Martin \"Axe\" Axenroth (drums) of Opeth, now consists of three members from Catatonia, but contrary to Catatonia's move away from metal, they are approaching the mainstream of death metal. Then in 2014, Nick Holmes of Paradise Lost joined, replacing Peter Teckren (vocals) of Hypocrisy, and they created their latest work, \"The Great Fathomless Mastery,\" with great anticipation. This album, their first studio release in six years, is fast, intense, and evil death metal that retraces to the roots of their \"holy ground\" Florida and Gothenburg. From the first track, \"Let the Stillborn Come to Me,\" the speed and violence that permeate the entire album are destructive. Like Catatonia, Paradise Lost has gradually moved away from their early death\/gothic\/doom metal sound in recent years, but Nick's vocals on this album are a stark contrast to the clean vocals heard on their recent works, reminiscent of the death growls from their debut album, \"Lost Paradise\" (1990). He also appears in band photos and videos wearing a black monk's robe and white corpse paint, demonstrating his passion for this band. While Katatonia has released the acoustically-influenced live album \"Sanctuade,\" and Paradise Lost is scheduled to release \"The Plague Within\" in June, an album embodying a \"dark and melodic\" aesthetic, this album represents a further intensification of their raw, animalistic nature. At the same time, their wide range of expressive abilities is evident in the album's sound, and the dramaturgy woven from mercilessly slicing thrash riffs and lightning-fast drumming is brimming with thrills. Furthermore, this album features guest appearances from Chris Leifert and Eric Cutler of Autopsy, heavyweights of US death metal and early death metal drummers. The ultimate surge is created by the meeting of the pinnacle of death metal from Sweden, the UK, and the US. They toured extensively in 2015, and were scheduled to perform at some of the world's largest festivals, including Wacken Open Air in Germany and Hellfest in France, blasting their death metal on audiences of tens of thousands.
