This is the second album by 3MA, a super string trio comprised of three top players representing contemporary African music. The kora weaves brilliant melodies with an African tone while making extensive use of the high register, the oud handles the mid-to-low range while adding an essence of Arabic music that is connected to the African continent, and the valiha, which has a tone similar to the kora but plays in a slightly lower range and has a unique playing style similar to the Japanese koto, subtly blending African and Asian elements. The multinational ensemble created by the valiha has an increasing sense of unity, and it is noteworthy that they have achieved a transboundary sound that only 3MA can achieve, going beyond the realm of cross-cultural mixture. It is extremely rare for traditional string instrument players from Mali, Morocco, and Madagascar to continue working together as the same group. 3MA's sound is acoustic and rooted in traditional music, but it can be said to expand the possibilities of new African music that could only have been born in today's increasingly globalized world.
