He began his career as a songwriter in the 1960s, and in 1966, he wrote hit songs such as \"Wild Thing,\" which was a hit for The Troggs and later covered by Jimi Hendrix, as well as The Hollies' \"I Can't Let Go\" and Merrilee Rush's \"Angel of the Morning,\" establishing himself as a top-tier songwriter. In the 1970s, he released two albums with Al Gogoni and others under the names Gogoni, Martin \u0026amp; Taylor. He later began a solo career, releasing several albums including the acclaimed 1972 album \"Gasoline\" and 1973 album \"Last Chance.\" However, in the 1980s, he suspended his musical activities and spent 15 years as a gambler. After resuming his career in the late 1990s, he consistently released albums, such as \"Red Dog Tracks\" (2005) as a duo with fiddler Carrie Rodriguez, and \"Fuck All the Perfect People\" (2012) as a solo artist, and actively toured.
