Let The Spirit Out Kahil El Zabar was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1953. After graduating from high school, he attended Kennedy King University. He later studied at Malcolm X University and other institutions. Having developed an interest in drums and percussion, he attended the University of Ghana in Africa in 1973 to study African music. At the age of 18, he joined the AACM, a music group of avant-garde Black musicians, and simultaneously formed the Ethnic Heritage Ensemble and the Ritual Trio in 1974. He also became chairman in 1975. With each band, he has consistently released dozens of albums, starting with \"Three Gentlemen From Chicago\" in 1981 and \"The Ritual\" in 1986, and continuing to the present day. His original African spiritual jazz has received high acclaim, and he has collaborated with various artists such as Dizzy Gillespie, Pharoah Sanders, and Stevie Wonder.
