In 1963, Paul Butterfield formed the Paul Butterfield Blues Band in Chicago with guitarist Elvin Bishop and Mike Bloomfield. They signed with Elektra Records and performed at the Newport Folk Festival in 1965. Their playing, which was unusual for a white musician, and their experience backing Bob Dylan garnered attention. That same year, they released their debut album, \"The Paul Butterfield Blues Band.\" The following year, 1966's \"East-West\" received even greater acclaim and solidified their popularity, but Bloomfield and several other members left the band. Later, in 1967, David Sanborn and others joined, and they released the R\u0026amp;B-influenced \"The Resurrection of Pigboy Crabshaw,\" performing at the Monterey Pop Festival. After releasing \"In My Own Dream\" in 1968, Elvin Bishop also left the band. They continued to release albums such as \"Keep On Moving\" in 1969 and \"Live\" in 1970, and performed at Woodstock and other festivals, but the band disbanded in 1971. Paul moved to Woodstock, formed Better Days, and continued his musical career.
