He moved to New York in 1979 and honed his skills in various sessions. At the age of 22, he joined the Miles Davis Band and participated in acclaimed 1980s albums such as \"The Man With The Horn\" and \"We Want Miles,\" instantly making his name known worldwide. In 1982, he formed Elements with Mark Egan, formerly of the Pat Metheny Group. In 1984, he rejoined the Mahavishnu Orchestra's reunion and participated in their albums until their disbandment in 1987. As a solo artist, he has released around 20 albums, starting with \"Moods Unlimited\" in 1983, and has been nominated for Grammys for albums such as \"Soul Insider\" in 2000 and \"Soulgrass\" in 2005.
