He was captivated by the blues from a young age, influenced by his father, a Black man and blues collector. He picked up a guitar at the age of 8 and was already working professionally by the age of 18. He studied music at the University of San Jose, even teaching jazz improvisation on campus. Since then, he has also mastered piano, bass, and tenor saxophone. In 1987, he debuted with \"Late Night City Blues\" on Blue Rock It. The album was nominated for a WC Handy Award (now a Blues Music Award), instantly bringing him into the spotlight. His guitar playing and vocals were praised by B.B. King and Albert King, with whom he collaborated, and he was also highly regarded by West Coast musicians such as Robben Ford and Larry Carlton. Since then, he has consistently released 15 albums, including \"Cuttin' Loose\" in 1990 and \"So Many Miles\" in 2010, through labels such as Blind Pig.
