Born into a musical family, his father was Leon Bibb, who was active in the 1960s folk scene, and his uncle was John Lewis of the MJQ. At the age of 19, he moved to Paris and became devoted to the blues. He later moved to Sweden and released \"Ain't It Grand\" independently in 1972 and \"Rainbow People\" in 1977. He returned to New York briefly in 1980, and then back to Sweden five years later. In 1997, his collaborative release with his idol Taj Mahal and others, \"Shakin' a Tailfeather,\" was nominated for a Grammy Award, making him known worldwide. In recent years, he has consistently released albums such as \"Jericho Road\" (2013, featuring Lucy Foster), \"Blues People\" (2014), \"Red Berries Gold\" (2015, a collaboration with J.J. Miltu), and \"Happiest Man in the World\" (2016, under the name North Country Fur). In 2017, \"Migration Blues\" was nominated for Best Traditional Blues Album.
