He started playing guitar at the age of seven after seeing the Beatles, and became deeply involved in the blues through The Yardbirds, Cream, and The Allman Brothers. In the 1980s, he moved to Atlanta and joined Alley Cats. In 1981, he formed The Heart Fixers with veteran harpist Bob Nelson of Chicago. In 1986, they released four albums, including \"Cool On It,\" and attracted attention. In 1988, he signed with Alligator Records and made his solo debut with \"Georgia Blue.\" He subsequently released four albums, including \"Storm Warning\" in 1994, receiving critical acclaim. He continued to release albums consistently through labels like Capricorn and Telarc throughout the 2000s. In 2005, he returned to Alligator and released \"Live: Highwayman.\" His latest album is \"Devil May Care,\" released in 2022.
