Are We Free Kelly Powers was born in southeastern Massachusetts in the 1980s. She began taking guitar lessons at the age of nine and was influenced by Lucinda Williams, Karen Dalton, and others. She started singing in coffee houses in her teens, and her voice and guitar playing quickly made her a sensation, leading to appearances at numerous festivals, including the Boston Folk Festival. She debuted in 2001 with \"You, Me and a Redhead\" and was a finalist in the Carville New Folk Competition and the Telluride Songwriting Contest. However, she took a break from music due to marriage and childbirth. After a divorce, she made a comeback in 2009 with \"Faith in the Shadows,\" and also toured Europe. Her 2014 release, \"Kerri Powers,\" reached number one on the roots radio charts and was used in the film \"Chuck\" and the popular TV series \"Rescue Me.\" In 2018, she released \"Starseeds\" and planned a US and European tour, but it was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
