At the age of 21, he signed a songwriting contract with Fame through an introduction by David Hood, and in 2001 he joined Hood's son, Patterson's, Drive By Truckers. He participated in three albums, contributing not only guitar and vocals but also many songs. After leaving the band in 2007, he made his solo debut with \"Sirens of the Ditch.\" In 2009, he formed Jason Isbell \u0026amp; The 400 Unit and released two albums. In 2013, his acoustic solo work \"Southeastern\" attracted attention, and in 2015, \"Something More Than Free\" reached number one on the Billboard Rock, Folk, and Country charts and won two Grammy Awards, including Best Americana.
