After graduating from the University of Miami, he moved to LA and worked as a film composer and studio musician. In 1984, he formed Bruce Hornsby and the Range, which was discovered by Huey Lewis, leading to a contract with RCA Records in 1985. Their debut album, \"The Way It Is,\" released in 1986, went platinum, with the title track reaching number one in the US, and winning a Grammy for Best New Artist. After releasing two more albums, the band disbanded. From 1990 onwards, he built his career as a member of the Grateful Dead, and also participated in albums by Don Henley, Bob Dylan, CS\u0026amp;N, and others.
