She began singing in clubs at the age of 16 and worked as a vocalist for Bundock and The Box. Having honed her skills, she made her major debut in 1988 with \"Tell Somebody\" on Atlantic Records. She quickly won the Juno Award for Best Female Vocalist. Then, in 1992, \"Racine\" became a worldwide hit, selling 450,000 copies, with the single \"Make You a Believer\" charting on the US Billboard charts. Also that year, she was selected for the soundtrack of the hit movie \"The Bodyguard,\" where she performed the duet \"Trust in Me\" with Joe Cocker, gaining international recognition. Her 1994 album \"Rats\" didn't surpass the success of her previous work, and she left the major label, but continued to release albums consistently, including \"Present\" in 1997 and \"What You Give\" in 2006.
