He signed a songwriting contract with Fame at the age of 21, introduced by David Hood (bass) of Muscle Shoals. In 2001, he joined his son Patterson Hood's Drive-By Truckers, participating in three albums and contributing not only guitar and vocals but also many songs. However, he left in 2007 and made his solo debut with \"Sirens of the Ditch.\" Subsequently, he released \"Jason Isbell \u0026amp; The 400 Unit\" in 2009 and \"Here We Rest\" in 2011. In 2013, he released the acoustic album \"Southeastern.\" His 2015 album \"Something More Than Free\" reached number one on the Billboard Rock, Folk, and Country charts, and number six overall, finally winning two Grammy Awards the following year, including Best Americana Album.
