She sang gospel music in church from a young age, influenced by artists such as Yolanda Adams and Shirley Caesar. After graduating from high school, she was invited to join a military band, singing the national anthem at ceremonies and participating in tours to Iraq and Kosovo. Returning to Houston in 2011, she formed The Houston Rules Band with top local musicians including Larry Filcher and Tony Braunagel of the Phantom Blues Band, Taj Mahal's backing band, and began performing. Their debut album, \"Making My Mark,\" was released in 2014 on Montrose Records. She quickly climbed the blues charts in America and Europe, and the following year, in 2015, she was named Best New Artist at the Blues Music Awards (BMA). In 2016, she released her second album, \"Wild \u0026amp; Free,\" which debuted at number 7 on the Billboard Blues chart. The following year, in 2017, she was nominated for the Koko Taylor Award at the BMA.
