Formed around 1953 by four high school friends in Detroit, centered around Levi Stubbs, they initially performed under the name Four Ames. They signed with Chess Records in 1956 and changed their name to The Four Tops. They continued to move between record labels such as Red Top, Riverside, and Columbia, but without much success, continuing their steady activities including nightclub performances. In 1963, they caught the eye of Berry Gordy Jr. and signed with Motown. They had numerous hits, including \"I Can't Help Myself\" (1965) and \"Reach Out I'll Be There\" (1966), both produced by H=D=H and reaching number one in the US, before moving to ABC in 1972. They continued to produce hits such as \"Ain't No Woman\" (1973). They also released two albums through Casablanca before returning to their former label, Motown, in 1983. Original members Lawrence Payton, Renaldo Benson, and Stubbs have all passed away, leaving only Abdul Fakir, but they continue to perform today with the addition of Lawrence's son.\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"TOKYO JAPAN CD SHOP","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":53227128455477,"sku":"4546266215049","price":4100.0,"currency_code":"JPY","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/1011\/5966\/5973\/files\/51zPCUwi-bL._AC.jpg?v=1785378539","url":"https:\/\/tokyojapancdshop.com\/products\/4546266215049","provider":"TOKYO JAPAN CD SHOP","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
