He majored in film at a university in NY but dropped out to pursue music. In the early 70s, he worked as a guitarist for Bobby Vee and Dave Mason. In 1974, he released several singles, including \"It's a Fine Line,\" through CBS, but without much success. However, he caught the eye of Steely Dan's producer, Gary Katz, and under his production, he debuted with Warner in 1978 with \"Mannequin.\" In 1979, he released \"Blue Desert\" under the production of Jay Graydon, and in 1983, \"A Hole in the Wall,\" among others. These albums remain popular today as representative works of the West Coast sound and AOR.
