All three were familiar with music from a young age and studied music at Berklee College of Music after graduating from high school. In 2010, Maya and Oliver, who had been pursuing separate careers, reunited to form the Stray Birds. They then added bassist Charles and debuted with the EP \"BORDERLAND.\" In 2012, they released \"THE STRAY BIRDS\" and embarked on a tour. In 2013, they released the cover EP \"ECHO SESSIONS,\" featuring recordings of songs by artists such as Townes Van Zandt. Then, in 2014, they signed with Yep Roc and released \"BEST MEDICINE,\" which became a huge hit, reaching number 2 on the Billboard Bluegrass chart.
