He spent his childhood in Greenwich Village and in 1965 formed the band \"The Strangers\" with Kenny Altman and others. They released a single the following year but did not achieve commercial success, and the band disbanded three years later. In 1969, he formed \"The Fifth Avenue Band\" with Altman and others, developing a sophisticated folk-rock sound, but this also did not lead to commercial success and the band disbanded. He then began a solo career in Los Angeles, releasing \"Ohio Knox\" in 1971 and a solo album the following year, but neither achieved major success. In the mid-1970s, he moved to Maine and temporarily distanced himself from the music scene, but resumed his activities in 1978 following a resurgence in popularity in Japan. Starting with \"On the Bandstand,\" released that same year, he released numerous solo albums, and in 1990 he also produced a reunion album with the Fifth Avenue Band. He also worked on projects such as \"Hat Check Girl\" with singer-songwriter Annie Gallup and \"Parker Gray\" with Harvey Jones. He also demonstrated talent as a producer, working on the Laura Nyro tribute album \"Time \u0026amp; Love\" (1997). He has deep ties to Japan, and during several visits, he developed a relationship with Yoshiyuki Sahashi, who has become an important partner supporting his musical activities. Yoshiyuki Sahashi was born on September 7, 1961, in Meguro Ward, Tokyo. He made his professional debut in 1983 as a member of the band \"UGUISS,\" which he formed during high school. After the band disbanded, he began working as a session guitarist, and with his exceptional musical sense, broad knowledge, and superior performance skills, he quickly gained the trust of many artists. Later, he also began working on arrangements and productions, releasing many hit songs. He has also received high praise for his live performances, which are a testament to his band background. He continues to support the Japanese music scene in a wide range of ways, including the acoustic duo \"Yamagen\" with Hirokazu Ogura, the unit \"Darjeeling\" with Dr.kyOn, and the reunion of \"UGUISS\" last year after a 40-year hiatus.
