The recording, which clearly captures the details of each part, is also superb. -- Content (from \"CD Journal\" database): Of the six numbered symphonies left by the composer, the third symphony, the only one written in a major key, is a large-scale work in five movements. Ashkenazy and the NHK Symphony Orchestra are impressive for their balanced sound and slightly fast tempo setting. From measure 57 of the introduction to the first movement, which is instructed to \"gradually get faster,\" they maintain an orderly ensemble while gaining appropriate intensity and moving into the main section. Each section of the NHK Symphony Orchestra brilliantly depicts the contrapuntal intricacies incorporated into the piece, and they succeed in weaving together lively moments without giving the impression of the \"scatteredness\" often used when describing this piece. If there is any point of dissatisfaction, it would be that, as is evident when entering the main section of the first movement and presenting the first theme, the music lacks a certain \"volume\" because it moves forward without pauses or pauses where the character of the music shifts. In the fifth movement, a modern approach that rejects exaggeration is employed. The lengthy fugue based on the rondo theme is also played brilliantly.
