Aiming for their early guitar tone, their 13th album, \"There Near,\" is released with relentless roaring sound. \"Dinosaur Jr. continues to create great music for both new listeners and long-time fans of the band.\" - Wall Street Journal Today, Dinosaur Jr. announced that their new album, \"There Near,\" will be released on August 28th by Jagjaguwar. \"There Near\" is the sixth studio album Dinosaur Jr. has produced in the 20 years since their reunion. For the past five years since their last album, \"Sweep It Into Space,\" they have satisfied fans with live albums and unreleased tracks, but nothing is better than an album packed with ear-splitting new songs. \"There Near\" is truly a masterpiece of sound. Produced intensively over a short period of one year at Bisquiteen Studio in Amherst, 'There Near' was almost entirely recorded by the core trio?Thundertube king Murph, human tornado Lou Barlow (bass\/vocals), and the unparalleled J Mascis (guitar\/vocals)?with some piano and organ contributions from local renowned musician Ken Mauri. And the album roars from beginning to end. J's guitar tone on 'There Near' is wilder than ever, perhaps partly due to him playing through a 70s Mesa Boogie MK1 amp he recently acquired. \"We bought the same amp that Chris Dixon had when we made our first album. Chris used his amp at his home to record our playing. It's a really interesting sound, one I hadn't heard in a while. We were trying to recapture that sound on this album. The Rolling Stones started using Mesa Boogie amps in the '70s after hearing Santana play. Then The Clash imitated The Rolling Stones, and so on. As time went on, with the MK2 and so on, Mesa Boogie amps became more metal-oriented. But the MK1 is like a more powerful version of the Fender sound. You've probably heard Rick Rubin playing the first albums of bands he produces and always saying, 'Let's go back to that sound,' right? So I applied his advice to myself,\" J says. When asked about the philosophical complexity of the lyrics, J replied, \"When I'm writing a song, I'm not always sure 'what' it's about. I think the meaning will naturally emerge over time. Anyway, I use whatever words I can. I'm also greatly influenced by the difficult books I'm reading at the time. I try not to overthink things. I think it's a bit boring when Spotify displays all the lyrics to a song. That's not fun, is it?\" 'There Near' is a work that continues the lineage of Dinosaur Jr.'s masterpiece albums. The new songs, along with their legendary hits and the overwhelming riffs that roar in live performances, are sure to produce a fantastic sound. Next month, Dinosaur Jr. will start a tour of the East Coast, South, and Midwest. Dinosaur Jr. was formed in 1984 in Amherst, Massachusetts, by J Mascis (G\/V), Lou Barlow (B\/V), and Murph (D). They released their debut album, \"Dinosaur,\" in 1985. After releasing their third album, \"Bug,\" in 1988, Lou Barlow left the band, but they released their major-label debut, \"Green Mind,\" in 1991. Murph also left in 1993, but they released a total of four albums on major labels until \"Hand It Over\" in 1997. In 2005, the original three members reunited, and in 2007 they released the album \"Beyond\" on Fat Possum. In 2009, they signed with Jagjaguwar and released the album \"Farm.\" Since then, they have released \"I Bet on Sky\" (2012), \"Give a Glimpse of What Yer Not\" (2016), and \"Sweep It Into Space\" (2021). yTRACKLISTz01.
