Kevin Morby has announced that his 8th studio album, 'Little Wide Open', produced by Aaron Dessner, will be released on May 15th by Dead Oceans. \"Little Wide Open is undoubtedly the most personal and sensitive album I've ever made, set against a backdrop of various elements: winding highways, towns with populations under 100,000, roadside crosses, rock and roll romance, the intricacies of love, being an American entertainer, and Econoline vans. Aaron did a fantastic job of keeping me from stuffing too many tricks into the songs and leaving the narratives a little raw. Contrary to its title, this album is incredibly liberating,\" Morby explains. In the summer of 2024, Aaron asked Morby to support The National at their London show in Crystal Palace Park. After that, Aaron, who was in top form having produced albums for Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, and Gracie Abrams, contacted Morby and offered to produce his next album. They began recording in early 2025 at Aaro's Long Pond Studio in Stuyvesant, New York, and completed the album in September of the same year. The album features numerous artists, including Aaron, who plays multiple instruments throughout, as well as Amelia Meath, Justin Vernon, Katie Gavin, Lucinda Williams, Mat Davidson, Meg Duffy, Oliver Hill, Rachel Baiman, Stuart Bogie, Tim Carr, Andrew Barr, Benjamin Lanz, Colin Croom, and Tom Moth. Morby himself describes \"Little Wide Open\" as the third installment in an unintended trilogy, following \"Sundowner\" (2020) and \"This Is a Photograph\" (2022), which documented his time in the American Midwest after returning to Kansas City. In this work, Aaron's production further elevates Morby's work, but the focus on the songs themselves is not lost. Reminiscent of Tom Petty's 1994 masterpiece \"Wildflowers,\" this album exudes a renewed confidence and clarity. For Morby, who currently lives primarily in Los Angeles, the atmosphere of \"Little Wide Open\" is somewhat different from his previous works. It's a sense of restless forward momentum towards something new?towards an unseen, untested, yet inevitable future. Kevin Morby is a singer-songwriter from Texas. After dropping out of high school in Kansas, he moved to Brooklyn and began his career as a member of Woods and The Babies. In 2013, he released his solo debut album, \"Harlem River.\" Following \"Still Life\" in 2014, he signed with Dead Oceans and released his third album, \"Singing Saw,\" in 2016. \"Singing Saw\" was well-received, winning Pitchfork's Best New Music award, and was selected as one of the best albums of the year by many media outlets.
