Dinosaur Jr. will release their 12th album, \"Sweep It Into Space,\" their first in 5 years, on April 23, 2021, via Jagjaguwar. The album was produced by J Mascis and Kurt Vile, and recording began in the fall of 2019 at Bisquiteen Studio. The only outside musician to participate this time was Kurt Vile, and J Mascis says, \"I listened to a lot of Thin Lizzy, so I tried to get a twin-lead sound (laughs).\" Of the 12 tracks, \"Garden\" and \"You Wonder\" were written by Lou Barlow, and Murph's drumming is still present. Dinosaur Jr. was formed in 1984 in Amherst, Massachusetts, by J Mascis (guitar\/vocals), Lou Barlow (bass\/vocals), and Murph (drums). They released their debut album, \"Dinosaur,\" in 1985. After the release of their third album, \"Bug,\" in 1988, Lou Barlow left the band, but they released their major-label debut album, \"Green Mind,\" in 1991. Murph also left in 1993, but they released a total of four albums on major labels until \"Hand It Over\" in 1997. In 2005, the original three members reunited, and in 2007 they released the album \"Beyond\" on Fat Possum.
