Rolling Stone describes Mitski as \"the most fascinating and enigmatic musician in indie rock,\" and on September 15, 2023, he will release his new album, 'The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We', via Dead Oceans. This album is the most sonicly expansive, grand, and insightful of Mitski's works to date, with songs that both inflict and actively heal wounds. Here, love, like light from a distant star, time travels to celebrate our gentle days. The album was recorded at Bomb Shelter in East Nashville and Sunset Sound studio in Los Angeles, featuring an orchestra arranged and conducted by Drew Erickson and a full choir of 17 members (12 in Los Angeles and 5 in Nashville) arranged by Mitski. \"To create this new, sublime sound, it was essential for the band to record live together in the studio,\" Mitski said for the first time, and working with her longtime producer Patrick Hyland, the album incorporated a variety of elements. \"This is my most American album,\" Mitski says of her seventh album, but its sound feels like a profound act of witnessing this country grappling with personal sorrow and painful contradictions. However, \"it may be more than just witnessing,\" she says. \"Sometimes life feels easier without hope, soul, and love,\" Mitski says at times. On the other hand, when she closes her eyes and considers what is truly hers, what cannot be seized or torn down, she sees love. \"The best thing in my life is loving people. I hope that after I die, I can leave behind all the love I have. That way, all the goodness, all the good love I have created, can shine upon other people,\" Mitski says. She hopes that 'The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We' will continue to shine that love long after she is gone. Listening to the album, you really feel that way. Mitski is a Japanese-American singer-songwriter\/musician. While studying music at university, she independently released two albums, 'Lush' (2012) and 'Sad, New Career in Business' (2013). After graduating from university, her third album, 'Bury Me at Makeout Creek', released in 2014 by Double Double Whammy (later reissued by Dead Oceans), received critical acclaim. Subsequently, in 2016, she released her fourth album, \"Puberty 2,\" and in 2018, her fifth album, \"Be the Cowboy,\" both through Dead Oceans. \"Be the Cowboy\" received critical acclaim, including being named the number one album of the year by Pitchfork. In February 2022, she released her sixth album, \"Laurel Hell.\" The album was a huge hit, reaching number 5 on the US charts and number 6 on the UK charts. [TRACKLIST] 01. Bug Like an Angel 02.
