With their fifth album, \"The Don of Diamond Dreams,\" they have incorporated modernism into hip-hop\/rap. The 43-minute album, featuring 10 tracks, was produced by Shabazz Palaces themselves and recorded throughout 2019 at Protect and Exalt: A Black Space in Seattle. Mixing was done at Studio 4 Labs in Venice with engineering by Erik Blood, and mastering was handled by Scott Sedillo at Bernie Grundman Mastering in Los Angeles. The album features Purple Tape Nate, Stas THEE Boss, and Darrius. Contributions also come from singer\/keyboardist Darrius Willrich, Seattle-based OCnotes (who also collaborated on Ishmael Butler's project Knife Knights), Los Angeles musician Carlos Overall, and bassist Evan Flory-Barnes. Shabazz Palaces is a Seattle-based hip-hop duo consisting of Palaeer Lazaro and Tendai Maraire. Palaeer Lazaro, whose real name is Ishmael Butler, is a former member of the jazz-rap group Digable Planets, and is also known as Butterfly. Digable Planets won the Grammy Award for \"Best Rap Group\" in 1993 for their debut album, \"Reachin' (A New Refutation Of Time And Space).\" In 2009, Palaeer Lazaro formed Shabazz Palaces with Tendai Maraire. Their two EPs released that year, \"Shabazz Palaces\" and \"Of Light,\" garnered attention from Pitchfork and other publications, leading to a contract with Sub Pop (Shabazz Palaces were Sub Pop's first hip-hop artists). In 2011, they released their debut album, \"Black Up,\" which received critical acclaim, including being named Best New Album by Pitchfork. It was selected as one of the best albums of the year by numerous media outlets, including Pitchfork, Mojo, Popmatters, Gorilla vs. Bear, and The Seattle Times. In 2014, they released their second album, \"Lese Majesty,\" which also received high praise, including an 8.2\/10 rating from Pitchfork. In 2017, they simultaneously released two albums, \"Quazarz: Born on a Gangster Star\" and \"Quazarz vs. The Jealous Machines.\" The single \"Shine a Light (feat.
