Based in Melbourne, Glass Beams was formed around Rajan Silva. The background to the band's formation is said to be Rajan's feelings towards his father, who immigrated from India to Melbourne in the late 1970s, and his childhood memories. In 2002, he watched a DVD of the \"Concert for George,\" a tribute to the late George Harrison of the Beatles, at the Royal Albert Hall in London, with his father. The image of legendary Indian sitar player Ravi Shankar and his daughter Anoushka performing alongside Western icons like Eric Clapton, Paul McCartney, and Jeff Lynne of ELO was etched in his memory. His broad musical background stems from his father's record collection. Growing up listening to orthodox blues artists like B.B. King and Muddy Waters, as well as Bollywood icons like Asha Bhosul and Mangeshkar, he was drawn to the fusion of Western musical styles and traditional Indian music pioneered by Indian artists such as R.D. Berman, Ananda Shankar, and Kalyanji Ananji. Creating a world of exotic psychedelia with a sense of statelessness, they released their debut EP, \"Mirage,\" in 2021. Through social media, streaming, and word of mouth, the band quickly became a sensation, spreading rapidly among music fans. At festivals where they were invited following the immediate success of their debut, they performed tracks from their 'Mirage' EP, along with a 20-minute unreleased song. Early performance footage of this unreleased track garnered millions of views, rapidly increasing their fanbase.
