North London-based five-piece band Sorry releases their 3rd album, 'COSPLAY'! Sorry was formed by childhood friends Asha Laurenz and Louis O'Brien. Currently, the band consists of five members: drummer Lincoln Barrett, multi-instrumentalist Campbell Baum, and electronics player Marco Pini. Their third album, 'COSPLAY', is a work in which they break down and redraw the musical framework they have built throughout their career. It's a free world where anyone can be anyone, where reality and fantasy, life and death, past and present intertwine. The album's opening track, \"Echoes,\" is a new song following the previously released singles \"Waxwing,\" \"Jetplane,\" and \"JIVE.\" Asha says she drew inspiration from a poem recited by one of the performers at a poetry event she frequently attended, in which a boy shouts \"Echo, Echo, Echo \/ I love you, Echo\" towards a tunnel and waits for a reply. She sings a story of losing oneself in love, with \"Echo\" eventually becoming a third party who comes between the two, set to a beautiful and moving melody. \"COSPLAY\" is sprinkled with references to pop culture. \"Waxwing\" depicts Mickey Mouse, who is always lurking in the depths of one's heart but never appears on the surface, and \"Jetplane\" quotes \"Hot Freaks,\" a representative anthem of Guided by Voices, and deals with the theme of celebrity decadence. \"Candle\" is an homage to Bob Dylan's \"Blowing In The Wind\" and also a reaction to the recent boom in Dylan films starring Timoth?e Chalamet. In \"In The Dark,\" there's a reference to Yukio Mishima, whom Asha and Lewis were reading while recording \"COSPLAY.\" At the same time, the band draws inspiration from their past songs and demos. \"Hold me,\" used at the beginning of \"Echoes,\" comes from an early recording Lewis had posted on SoundCloud, and \"JIVE\" developed from a demo that gained popularity on Asha's SoundCloud. Sorry's recording process isn't linear. Many of the songs on \"COSPLAY\" first took shape in the studio Asha and Lewis share, and the samples and characteristics of the demos created there were integrated into the final recordings. In other songs, they first recorded as a whole band, then took it back to the studio and applied their own sampling processing, employing a variety of approaches. Another characteristic is the subtle shimmer of sound hidden deep within the songs, such as the pulsating keyboard in \"Echoes\" and the vocal processing in \"Into The Dark.\" Furthermore, at the end of 2024, they supported Fontaines D.C. on their UK\/Ireland arena tour, gaining experience playing in venues with thousands of people. The sense of scale and confidence they gained there are strongly reflected in 'COSPLAY,' bringing a new confidence to the work about who they are and who they can become. \u003ctracklist\u003e 01.
