The legendary project African Head Charge from On-U Sound, featuring percussion wizard Bonjo and UK dub master Adrian Sherwood, returns with their first album in 12 years!!!! \"We think we've achieved our best results ever with this album\" - Adrian Sherwood. African Head Charge, the legendary project from On-U Sound formed around percussionist Bonjo Aiyabingi Noah and producer Adrian Sherwood, known as a pioneer of UK dub, returns to On-U Sound with their first new album in 12 years! Titled \"Trip To Bolgatanga,\" the album was led by founding member Bonjo Aiyabingi Noah, with his close friend and longtime collaborator Adrian Sherwood once again taking the lead in production. Regarding the long gap between albums, Bonjo says: \"For 12 years, I spent time with my family in Ghana, but I continued creating. I'm sure people will understand that I still have a lot to share with the world. During this period of my life, I wanted to work, but I also wanted to cherish time with my family. I enjoyed each day while also dedicating myself to creating. After all, happiness makes you more positive about creating, and the greatest happiness is being with family.\" The sound of this album certainly brings to mind African Head Charge's classics like \"My Life In A Hole In The Ground\" and \"Songs Of Praise,\" but that doesn't mean it would be a mistake to assume that their music has stopped evolving. The renowned percussionist continues: \"Whether it's playing the drums or singing chants like incantations, it takes time to get the hang of it. I've traveled all over Ghana, meeting drummers. Every tribe?Fante, Akim, Gha, Bolgatanga, and so on?has its own unique drumming culture. I'm trying to learn as much as I can and combine it all into one form. It's like cooking. You mix all the ingredients together, for example, yam, banana, and pumpkin, and the final seasoning is crucial. That's how I see music. You gather various elements, taste them, and then you say, 'Yes, this is good seasoning. Yes, this is good sound.' That's the raison d'?tre of African Head Charge. We pursue every possible combination, and when we bring it to Adrian, he lends us his strength to create something even newer.\" Producer Adrian Sherwood shares the same opinion. \"We've always done this: we select the right material for African Head Charge, and then we enjoy overdubbing and mixing to perfect it. We've always had a great working relationship, but I think we've achieved our best result ever with this album.\" Even after more than 40 years of activity, this album gives the impression that the members, like a big family sharing the essence of music, have returned to the scene. Multi-instrumentalist Skip MacDonald and Doug Wimbish, who works with him in Tuckhead, both contribute their talents to various tracks. Drummer Perry Melius, who was involved with African Head Charge in the early 90s, adds his traditional, heavy rhythms to three tracks. It's also worth noting that there are many fresh faces joining the band. Wind and reed instruments are handled by Paul Booth, Richard Roswell, and David Fulwood. Keyboards are by Russ Manrange and Samuel Berglitter. Guitar is by Vince Black. Furthermore, the album features percussion by Shadow Rock Adu, Mensa Aka, Akanuoye Angela, and Emmanuel Okine, strings by Ivan \"Celloman\" Hassy, ??and powerful vocals by Ghetto Priest. As a special guest, King Isoba, a master of the traditional instrument Korogo, participates on vocals and also showcases his skillful playing on the traditional two-string lute. While previous albums blended essences gathered from all over the world, with this new album African Head Charge has one place in mind. \"A Trip To Bolgatanga\" is a musical journey through northern Ghana, where Bonjo currently lives. This is a record of a fantastical journey, reinforced by thundering bass, altered wind instruments, effects that cut out extraneous sounds, noisy wah pedal effects, possessed-sounding voodoo dance music, synthesized undulating sounds, conga rhythms, layers upon layers of interwoven electronic instrument effects, bluesy woodwinds, and funky organ sounds, all symbolizing the landscapes that unfold. As with all On-U Sound works, each listen reveals new discoveries in the finer details. The true value of this sound cannot be appreciated without listening on a large-scale sound system, and when that happens, it will overwhelm any competitor, leaving them no match for it.\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"TOKYO JAPAN CD SHOP","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":53227108925749,"sku":"4523132134277","price":4100.0,"currency_code":"JPY","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/1011\/5966\/5973\/files\/613fN1nPRmL._AC.jpg?v=1785377981","url":"https:\/\/tokyojapancdshop.com\/products\/4523132134277","provider":"TOKYO JAPAN CD SHOP","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
