In the early 1970s, the legendary cult band Magic Carpet's sitar player Clem Alford, along with British Indian tabla player Manjit Singh Rasiya, clarinetist Idris Rahman (Soothe Sayers, Wildflower, Il Considered), and drummer Eddie Hick (Ruby Rushton, Ashley Henry \u0026amp; The Re-Ensemble), formed the Uniting of Opposites, a band helmed by the world under the name Tim Deluxe. They have released their debut album, \"Ancient Lights.\" Tracks like \"Mint\" and the title track, which fuse jazz-rock, krautrock, and Indian music, connect to a world that ranges from early psychedelic rock to raga jazz incorporating Indian music by artists like Alice Coltrane and the Dave Pike Set. \"Dr. Roach,\" a deep black jazz track, and \"Car Number 27 \/ Mr Alpo,\" with its Afro-spiritual x Indian music influences, are reminiscent of Idolith's Wildflower, Il Considered, and the South London jazz scene with artists like Shabaka Hutchings and Nubya Garcia. \"Corridor Moves,\" which could be described as cosmic jazz, features sound effects and space effects reminiscent of Floating Points. \"Vortex Number 9,\" which makes heavy use of dub effects, also shows connections to the music of UK Asians such as Nitin Sawhney and Talvin Singh.
